Review

Annie here :)

I played a few hours of Dice Gambit's first act and I can officially say it's a great game.

I'm not usually a turn-based tactics type of girl, and to be honest I'm still not, but Dice Gambit had a modest amount of great reviews so I thought it was worth a shot. And it totally was! If you like turn based games I strongly believe you'll like this one. It's so polished and juicy and it's got some great quality of life features.

Character Customization

In Dice Gambit, you play as not just one character, but a whole family tree of monster hunters. You start with a super fun character creation screen, and later on you get to pick your spouse. While I didn't get that far quite yet, I assume this means you get to have fun with genetics when it's time to make an heir ๐Ÿ˜†

Art

I really like the art style in Dice Gambit. You can tell the 2D artist(s) had so much fun drawing all the characters and expressions. They have so much appeal and expressiveness but they're still quite unique looking.

Audio

Dice Gambit boasts not only an excellent soundtrack, but also plenty of fully-voiced scenes with gorgeous voice acting.

Gameplay

Again, I'm not a turn-based game girlie, so I won't harp on this too much. But what I can say is that the controls are so easy to pick up on (almost no tutorial is needed) and everything feels SO. JUICY.

If you're not a game developer or you haven't heard the term "juice" before in this context, it refers to all the little things added together to make the game feel responsive and satisfying to play. Think icons pulsing when you click on them, enemies flashing red when damaged, screen shake, everything. This game is full to the brim with juice, which is awesome because that means it makes you feel like a badass constantly.

And speaking of feeling like a badass, Dice Gambit is bursting with difficulty modifiers and settings, so any player, whether they're a noob like me or an expert, can have a great time with just the right amount of challenge.

Final Thoughts

Dice Gambit is a great time, and the first act is free so you may as well try it out. I never play games like this and I still had to tear myself away from it to write this review.

Whether you like turn-based tactics games or not, give it a go! If the character creator doesn't grab you I don't know what will ;)

Coming Up...

As has become routine for a while, you can expect a hidden gem from Sasha on Tuesday. Stick around until then!

See you next time,
