Review

Annie here :)

I played the demo for Winter Burrow and I loved it!

A disclaimer, though: I genuinely love crafting in video games. I know it can be contentious. Most people I speak to tell me crafting is so overdone and no game needs it. But for me, there's something about going out and collecting resources that really tickles my fancy.

With that being said, I loved Winter Burrow. It's literally just an adorable fetch quest/crafting game with a really heartwarming (and heartbreaking) story.

So if you like crafting games, or you just tolerate them but you also like cute games or good story, I think you'll like Winter Burrow.

Pros:

  • The art style is unique enough but still pretty recognizable, and very appealing.
  • The music is great. A little catchy but not at all repetitive.
  • The tutorial is quick and the game is super intuitive.
  • Progression is comfy. Resources feel balanced and fair with just a bit of challenge.
  • The demo has plenty of content. I played for over an hour and according to the Steam page I only made it about half way through.
  • The story is great and the design is evocative. I was invested from the start.

Cons:

  • Sometimes the player character makes little noises that I find annoying. (like when they open the storage chest. What is that, a meow?)
  • I didn't like some of the button choices for the keyboard layout, but the controller layout is fine.
  • Can't change button layout.

... I honestly can't think of any other cons. And considering that this is a free demo, that's impressive!

Final Thoughts

I know Winter Burrow won't be for everyone, but if you look at the Steam page and don't immediately recoil in disgust, I think you'll be really happy with what you find.

Besides, the demo is free! You'd be lame NOT to give it a shot ;)

Coming Up...
