Review

Annie here!

This week's game is Hozy, a classic home repair/decorating sim with two huge upgrades:

1: Mega-gorgeous Unreal Engine graphics, and

2: Some of the most satisfying and intuitive controls I've ever experienced.

In Hozy, you clean up abandoned homes and redecorate them to return them to glory. There's a bit of story sprinkled in there too.

The first thing I noticed about this game was the graphics. The developer clearly spared no expense and decided to push Unreal Engine 5 for all it's worth, and it shows. Somehow the poly, frame, and ray count are all high at the same time, without blowing up my PC. Though I did opt to turn my fans on full blast just in case.

There's a lot that goes into graphics, though. The lighting, particle effects, materials, and shader trickery all come together for a gorgeous picture, no matter how lacking in Feng Shui your design might be.

Graphics aside, what players will probably love most of all is the controls. Each level has bespoke mechanics for cleaning up the room, and each of them is as satisfying as Powerwash Simulator, if not more so. Whether you're sweeping dead leaves, painting walls, or ripping up old floorboards, each mechanic is incredibly intuitive and deliciously satisfying. You'll never need a tutorial, and you'll feel like your brain is getting massaged.

For the Sims (or any home-customization game) lovers out there, you'll be delighted by how free and open the item placement is. And yes, it's intuitive, too.

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for an "oddly satisfying" fix, definitely check out the demo for Hozy. There's a few levels to play and the full game is set to release next month.
