Review
Annie here!
This week's game was recommended by a friend in our Discord server. Piece by Piece is a puzzle platformer in the literal sense; the levels are made up of puzzle pieces that you connect to make your way to the end! There's really no shortage of creativity here, you can tell the devs love puzzle games. There's a new mechanic introduced every few levels that increases the complexity in a really satisfying way, and each level challenges your thinking skills just a little more than the last.
I played the free demo and didn't even finish all the levels provided. There's a lot of content here and from the Steam page I can see that the full game has even more to be uncovered.
Gameplay
This is a puzzle game for people who love puzzles. It's not quite out-of-the-box, it's just good brain-teasing fun. If you love learning new mechanics and piecing them together to reach your goal, this one will keep you entertained for hours.
I especially love the attention to detail. The movement feels super satisfying and responsive, the difficulty is well-balanced, and I encountered no issues with collision or other little bugs you might expect.
Graphics
What I really like about the art in this game is the attention to detail. There a loads of different level themes with different player characters to match. In one level you're a king in a fantasy dungeon, in the next you're a robot in a sci-fi space station. Some have different pieces with different themes, and different mechanics per piece.
The levels all take place on a desk surrounded by cute props, and the environment changes to match the level you're playing. Seeing the background art change per level was my favourite part.
Final Thoughts
If you love puzzle games, give this one a try! The demo is free and has loads of content, but it looks like there'll be a TON more levels and mechanics in the full version when it releases in March.
