Review
Sasha here! ๐
For boxing day I have a game for you about unboxing! ๐
Unboxathon was, as promised, content packed. I was a little overwhelmed by the things going on right off the bat. Despite this I found myself drawn in by the curious human desire of "big number; go up".
There's a skill tree, basic upgrade menus, and some sort of thing to "synthesize" items. That last one was a bit extra and felt a bit out of place. It was inconvenient to use and the outcome of its use felt unimpactful. Who knows if it was or not because there were much better ways to 'get number big'.
The main way to 'make number go big' (make money) was to just open boxes and sell the items. Afterwards, it was likely the shelves where you could place high values items which would earn you passive income based on their value.
The overall gameplay felt a little mindless and nothing emotionally impactful happened. To be fair, I'm not sure you can expect more from an idle/clicker game. In some situations this could be exactly what you need.
Clearly I must have needed it; I played the game for 6 hours and 100% the Steam achievements. I probably could have finished the game much sooner if I knew what the end goal was. After re-watching the trailer with a better understanding of the game I figure out how to beat the game (likely not something someone should need to do).
Final Thoughts
It'd recommend playing it if you like idle/clicker games or are looking to pass the time. There's some strategy in picking your next upgrades but overall it's not too deep. You could definitely do this while doing something else. Maybe during Pomodoro breaks or while doing whatever one normally does on boxing day. Box things? ๐ค
