Review

Sasha here! ๐Ÿ‘‹

You got me today!!! (Oups, I know I said Annie... but she's been out all week!)

This week is a special find through VGInsights (a tool we use for market analysis). Hypogea is catching some significant momentum as a short 3d-platformer, which is impressive for the genre!

Released November 9th, 2025, this game has already over 10 000 units sold according to VGInsights. At the time of writing this that's an average of ยฑ526 copies sold a day. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Hypogea claims itself as atmospheric, to which I would agree. The music, visuals, and tone are supported very well by the environmental storytelling this game has to offer. The game's relatively lowpoly but it's to the game's benefit; giving space for the players to fill gaps with their own imagination of what this world is about. This space allows for player self-insertion, reducing the gap between the player character and the player, making the game more immersive.

Speed Running?

The game definitely isn't designed for such.. but I mean games normally aren't, right?

Anyways, I found at least one large time saving skip and though some might find it fun to plan a route for this game. Especially since the movement is so engaging. There's definitely some real efficient ways to navigate levels.

Place & Setting

Taking place in an underground quarry, you play as an automaton that has woken up from a deep sleep that lasted for who knows how long.

The environment gives off much the same vibes as the old Aperture Science salt mines in Portal 2. Towering concrete edifices, granite walls, and old rusting metallic structures.

You'll climb rocks walls, decaying structures, discover inoperative automatons, peer into their "recollections", and witness the story of human ingenuity and brutality. All while you attempt to escape the underground.

Controls

No complaints about the controls. The game felt responsive and very forgiving. Every failed action performed felt as if it were due to my own lack of skill. Never once was it due to my lack of understanding of the game or bad level design.

Final Thoughts

I thought this game aligned well with something we're working on so I just had to give it a try. As for you, I would recommend this game if you're into parkoury, 3d-platformer games. It's $12.99 CAD and took me approximately 2ยฝ hours to complete, but I do see some replayability for those that like trying to beat games fast.

Coming Up...

Hang tight for another Tuesday newsletter. I'll likely cover that one too ๐Ÿ˜Ž
