Review

Sasha here!

We got a short Itch game for you today! It's a submission to the recent Jacksepticeye game jam (called Jamsepticeye).

Death is an opportunity was the theme for this jam. A pretty cool sounding theme, if you ask me.

The creator of Scavengers of Deadwood Pines says there were more ambitious plans for the 5 day jam but nonetheless managed to create something that still fit within the theme.

The first couple of tries playing I had trouble figuring out what I was meant to do, and the game would close each time I lost! This was likely a last minute solution for resetting the game.. this is a game jam game after all. I soon figured out that you just have to keep the fire stocked

I initially thought I was meant to stop waves of bird-like creatures from attacking the camp. (Which are scary btw! They're hard to see, have lanky-ass mantis arms, and breath heavily when nearby... ewww) but no, just keep feeding wood to the fire and the camp'll be safe from the ghoulish creatures.

Just remember that.. they can kill you.. and that Death is an opportunity. It gives you the opportunity to level up your firewood carrying capacity, your rifle damage, or the amount of ammunition you can carry.

Final Thoughts

Once I realized that the scariest thing in the game was the fire going out, I really had fun running around and trying different strategies.

It's easy enough to relaunch the game when it closes and you can probably beat it in around 15-30 minutes. I definitely played longer than that just to see how broken I can level up my gun.

My final game I was just eradicating them foul creatures from the Deadwood Pines. Campfire fully stocked and a lot of free hunting time.

Is this actually a cryptid hunting sim? ๐Ÿค”

Coming Up...

Annie's working on this Friday's newsletter. It's on a deceptively cute game with a creepy twist.

As for YouTube, we just released a new video where Annie and a visual novelist play I Just Want To Be Single (which she covered in a recent Friday newsletter). ๐Ÿ‘€ Check it out if you haven't already.
